Kindred Hospital Santa Ana & DAISY Foundation
Kindred Santa Ana has partnered with the DAISY Foundation to recognize the extremely important contribution made to patient care by the dedication and inspiration of nurses. DAISY is an acronym for Disease Attacking the Immune System.
In 1999, the Foundation was formed by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). During Pat’s 8 week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided not only to Pat but to everyone in his family. So one of the goals they set in creating a Foundation in Pat’s memory was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do everyday.

What is The DAISY Award?
The DAISY Award in a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care given by the nurses everyday. Kindred Santa Ana is proud to be a DAISY Award Hospital Partner, recognizing our nurses annually with this honor.
Each DAISY Award Honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony in his/her unit and will receive: a beautiful certificate, a DAISY award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled A Healer’s Touch. Additionally, everyone in the unit will celebrate with Cinnobon® cinnamon rolls – a favorite of Patrick during his illness. The Barnes Family ask that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.
How To Nominate An Extraordinary RN or LVN
DAISY Award honorees personify Kindred Hospital Santa Ana’s remarkable patient experience and consistently demonstrates the principles of Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring.
